Well...I swim in the Hudson and I don't think I would've swum in this - the water was this strange opaque green. Opacity is not a quality that makes me want to jump in. The Hudson is a deep olive green and reasonably clear, except during spring melt, when it becomes sort of tan & opaque as the run-off carries mud into the water. Still, as I mentioned, there seemed to be a healthy assortment of fauna, so it can't be bad.
Now with the narrowness of the walkways in some points, and the crowds, and the bars, and the complete absence of guardrails - I would bet that the Riverwalk has seen at least a few swimmers!
I definitely think DSL is not far in the future for me (sorry Annier, not trying to rub it in!) - it was one thing when my technosavvy friends would point and laugh but now the dialup is actually slowing down something I'm having a lot of fun with.
she's really cute! :)

I wish I could get DSL - I'm one if the 2% of people in the uk who can't get it!
p.s. DSL is worth it you do a lot of surfing or buzzing.
