Staten Island Circumnav, 7/16/05 - Part 1
Staten Island circumnavigation, 7/16/05 - launching from & landing at Pier 63 in Manhattan. 50 miles, 14 hours, a long trip and a good one. Part 1 is the southbound half, from Pier 63, down the east and southeast shores of Staten Island, to our lunch break at Ward Point at the southernmost tip of Staten Island.

bkfrogmaI'd say it was in the high 70's fahrenheit/high mid 20's celsius - it was a strange day, though, it looked as though it should be cool but there was very little wind & with the humidity, it was actually hot - unfortunately that's why I dispensed with the UV protectant rashguard that would have completely spared me getting burned. My hands and face are in the sun so much - pretty much year-round as I paddle all winter & I am not a big fan of gloves, only wear 'em when it gets really bitter - they would have been fine.
